10 Mile Run!

18 Nov

I completed a 10 mile charity run three days ago.  It was my longest run since surgery and I was a little nervous.  It was not very hilly, but I would not call it entirely flat either.  It went fairly well. The last two miles, I definitely felt tired and my “bad” knee was having some mild discomfort in the back of the knee – but no sharp pains or need to walk.  I finished in 1:45 – so the pace was 10:30.  This is much slower than I used to run, but I was happy that the pace remained consistent for every mile.  After the run, I was stiff, but not in pain.  I was achy the next day but was able to run on Tuesday (race day was Sunday) without any problem.  I am very happy that it turned out as well as it did.  I am trying to figure out now if I would be considered incredibly stupid to run a half marathon in 3 weeks 🙂

Thank you so much for posting this blog. I have read every entry and I have found it so helpful. I am an avid marathon runner and will have this surgery in about 4 weeks. I still have some questions and was wondering if I could email you some questions.

    Thanks again

Thank you for posting this blog too, I am not a runner however I am having ACI surgery hopefully by the beginning of April (should have had it at the beginning of January but they managed to contaminate my stem cells so they have to be grown again)
This will be my 6th operation on my knee and I am praying this works for me.
The one thing I am really worried about though is whether full weight bearing at three months is realistic??
I am getting married exactly 3 months and 2 weeks after surgery and I am so scared I won’t be able to walk down the aisle or have my first dance.
    Your advice would be great!
    Thank you.

Honestly, I was still using one crutch 3 months out and walking with a bit of a limp. But you could probably wear flats and do fine. Dancing – don’t know. I really really hope it all works out for you. Do not hesitate to ask questions or vent here!

Thank you so much for your reply, I will find out from the surgeon by next Thursday whether they have started to grow my stem cells again. I think as long as I can hold on to my dad whilst I walk down the aisle and get that bit done without a crutch I can deal with it, I can’t carry on with this pain anymore as its been going on for 10 years and getting worse.
I’ll let you know how I get on! Thanks again 🙂

Thank you so much for creating this blog! I am having surgery #1 to scope my knee and to extract the healthy cartilage cells on Thursday. I’ve run 8 marathons and I’m scared to death that I will never be able to run or play tennis again. This blog has given me some hope! Most people seem to have quit on their blogs after a few months so it’s nice to find one that documents the entire journey. I’ve struggled on whether or not to have this surgery but from all the research I’ve done, looking at my MRI images and trusting my doctor, I’m going through with it. Thanks again!
