Folllow up on my First RUN

22 Jan

Ok – so after my maiden voyage run on the treadmill two days ago my legs were really sore! My knee however was fine. I was surprised at the muscle soreness since I eliptical almost daily and I ride my bike and weight lift in between. Nonetheless, it felt similarly sore to after a half marathon. Good news is that it is resolving quickly and my knee is fine. I am pretty psyched. Thinking of signing up for a 5k to take place March 22 – hoping by then to be able to run outside and not feel any “weirdness”. I may be getting over enthusiastic — but that’s my nature. I’ll post as things progress. 🙂  The real test maybe how it feels after this muscle soreness resolves and I attempt another run.  Perhaps I should have started off with a mile instead of 3 miles — but that ship has sailed.

Just wanted to say thank you for your updates I to had ACI surgery at age 48, its just been 16 weeks since the surgery. As a Basketball coach(which I had to take the season off) this has been tough I guess like you I thought I would bounce right back. My next Dr.’s visit is in a week I had so many questions and fears until I read your updates now I don’t feel as if things have gone wrong. I have renewed hope of lacing the shoes up and getting back on the court and doing what I love and miss so much, not to mention I miss my heels pretty bad. Once again thank you for easing my fears and giving me hope that I made the right decision to have the surgery.
    Dreaming of a Jump shot.

Hang in there. 4 months is pretty early. If I could go back I would get moving more earlier because I atrophied pretty badly. I would not bother with heels as long as possible. They still bother me on stairs! I was pretty bummed 4 months out, convinced this whole thing was a disaster. Find something physical you can do to keep your mood up. As you know exercise is awesome therapy. I am happy to answer any questions you have. Keep smiling- I am living proof it gets better!

I do leg presses and knee extensions on a weight machine. Also I did a lot of wall swats and one leg knee bends early on.
