1 Year 10 months Post surgery- PT WORKING

14 Jan

I have been attending PT for a month now, and doing home exercises every day. I am pretty religious about doing the work outs at home. I have to say the knee feels much better. Has not given out in several weeks, no problem walking even several miles and it feels better on the stairs. I am actually starting to think that I will be doing a little running at some point this spring. I finish PT in two weeks. I figure six weeks more of home exercises and I should be able to at least give it a try with some confidence. The exercises the PT person has me doing are very targeted to the half of my quad that was not really firing properly. I feel pretty optimistic. I will post as things progress. Can’t believe I am coming up on the two year mark. This has been a marathon in itself. If I actually can manage a 5k this spring it will be AWESOME.

Hi! Thank you so much for keeping this record of your experience. I am almost 3 weeks out of my 2nd ACI and Fulkerson (also known as an osteotomy). Both times I had ACI Patellar, but this second time I had an additional defect on the Trochlea. My first surgery went as well as can be expected. This time I’m havin a bit more pain. My first surgery was 6 months before the second. I had progressed well enough to use my first surgery leg to use as my “good” leg. Anyway-I’m having lots of pain with this one-more I think than the first-taking more pain meds. I wanted to tell you that reading your blog has made me calm down a bit when I’m having difficulty and to not feel so alone. I hope I can be as athletic as you and get back to cycling and like you, I dream of running again!

Thanks again. Your writing on this blog helped at least one person ALOT-and I’m sure there are many others who read your diary but did not comment!
Sincerely Kayla (aka Ozzie-my dog’s name!)

Wow- 2 surgeries! That’s tough- but getting it over with without years between was super smart. I’m glad this blog has helped some. I remember feeling really lonely because I had no idea what to expect and no one else seemed to really understand. I can honestly say I am feeling pretty positive now and wish I’d spent less time fretting over everything. So much of this is mental- kind of like running a marathon- if you believe you can do it you can (training helps of course πŸ™‚ Hang in there and if you have any questions or need to rant- feel free- I will understand!

    Hi
I just came across your blog when researching ACI 2 years post op. I am in a pretty similar situation as you. I am a few weeks away from being 2 years post op and literally “ran” down the cartilage in my left knee. I was training to run in a 1/2 marathon and chose to ignore the pain. I have had knee issues for so long (8 surgeries total now) that I ignored it. Finally the MRI showed no cartilage on my patella. Getting that quad muscle back is tough. The doctor feels that is the key, if not I have to sit and wait until I get old enough to do a partial replacement. I am only 38 so that is a long time. I did six weeks of more therapy as well back in December and am doing my best to go to the gym regularly and do the at home stuff, its just so boring!

I am really encouraged that you are able to run now, I would love to be able to run again. Such great stress relief comes with running. I look forward to continueing to read your blog. Good luck and I hope you get back to normal, or whatever normal is after this procedure!

    Jamey
